Online Selective Test Preparation
Au Academy is now offering our Selective Test Preparation classes online! Our online tutoring via Zoom and Google Classroom lets us support our students at home!
We have found that Zoom and Google Classroom are stable platforms for students to easily access weekly live online lessons and interact with the course content. This includes weekly mock exams and homework tasks that are marked, with feedback provided by the tutor. Students may also ask questions on the Google Classroom forum about the Selective course content or exam preparation tips, which will be answered by the tutor during and outside of class time.

Selective Test Course Information
Our mission is to provide students preparing for the Selective exams with optimum support in an academically enriching and inclusive class environment.
Au Academy has updated the Selective Test Preparation Course in accordance with the changes to the Selective High School Placement Test, which include moving to a computer-based exam format in 2022. Additionally, the new tests will consist of a writing test, and three multiple-choice tests in reading skills, mathematical reasoning skills and thinking skills. Our course supports the greater emphasis on thinking skills, mathematical reasoning and problem solving.
Our Selective Tutor dedicates extra time and commitment because he genuinely cares about his students and consistently motivates and engages students to excel. Our tutor truly understands the value of developing a positive work ethic in students, especially during these early stages of their education. The supportive environment we create is conducive to learning, as can be seen from our outstanding placements for Selective students from 2015 – 2020.
Exam preparation is just as important at home as it is during the allocated class time, hence why our tutor has recently implemented our very own Google Classroom forum for our Selective students. This is a brilliant platform for our tutor to regularly follow up and assess his students’ progress outside class time, and answer all questions regarding exam preparation. Our tutor also provides additional IT support to ensure students can easily navigate their way around Zoom and Google Classroom. Our markers provide also provide written feedback and answer student questions.
Au Academy Selective Test Preparation Programs
The Selective High School Placement Test is designed to place academically gifted students in Selective High Schools in NSW. Students who wish to enter Selective High Schools in NSW in Year 7 must take the Selective Test to be considered. Year 8 – 12 students will have a different application process, depending on the Selective School.
The Selective Test is a multiple-choice test in Reading Skills, Mathematical Reasoning Skills, Thinking Skills, and a 20 minute written component. The results from these tests are combined with school assessment scores in English and mathematics to form the student’s profile score. Student profile scores are generally the most important determiners of academic merit used in the placement process.
The Selective High School Placement Test will be conducted during March each year. From 2022 onwards, the tests will change to a computer-based format (the last paper-based test will take place in 2021).
Au Academy 2020 – 2022 Selective Test Preparation Course – NOW ENROLLING YEAR 4 STUDENTS
We offer weekly Selective Test Preparation Courses in Hornsby and online for current Year 4, 5 and 6 students. Students may enrol at any stage during the year, depending on class capacity. We offer a free initial assessment for all new students to help gauge whether our course is suitable for them. We also provide a thorough analysis of your child’s strengths and weaknesses in Reading, Mathematical Reasoning and Problem Solving Skills.
During the Selective Test class, students take a sample Selective Test, receive explanations on test questions and lectures on the subjects tested (the lecture will be based on Reading, Mathematical Reasoning and Problem Solving). We target individual student weaknesses by providing individualised tutoring catered to your child’s weaknesses. We provide an innovative approach to teaching the Selective Test as students will engage interactively with the materials via our interactive projectors, write-able walls and class projects, or via Zoom and Google Classroom. Students will also receive in-depth homework packets, extensive study guides, relevant worksheets and materials for the Selective Test and individualised support to conquer their weaknesses. We offer more than just coaching for the Selective Test in this preparation course–we offer a fun, interactive learning environment for our students.
